Perfect fit - easy replacement - and just as loud as the old one

You just unplug the old one, remove the bottom screw and loosen the top screw, tilt it a bit and pull it out. New one goes in just by reversing the steps. I was really hoping this would be quieter than the original fan but I can’t complain since it is the same.

Very easy to change. You''ll need a fairly short screwdriver with a 1/4" socket or flat-head on the end to remove the motor mount screws. Remove bulb, remove fan cover (unhook springs inside housing), unplug motor, loosen upper screw on motor mount (you can''t really see this one, so don''t remove or will be a pain to get back in), then remove lower screw. Rotate housing a little to unhook mount from upper screw and take out the motor. Reverse steps to install new motor. Took me a about 5 minutes (but was covered with dust by the end... add step 0: vacuum dust off old motor first).

Exactly the same fit as the one I removed, hoping it goes another 18 years.

Downside: Still as noisy as the first motor when it was new, and doesn''t really pull air that well, but I guess that''s just the original motor design. I would pay more for a better motor (quieter with more suction). Broan, are you listening?

We bought this because we had a really old Broan bathroom fan with a heat lamp and the fan was making a lot of noise. This motor comes with a U shaped bracket and ours had an L shaped bracket. The motor fit perfectly into the old L bracket but the fan squirrel cage that came with the motor was too big. We installed the old squirrel cage on this motor and found out that we needed a little more clearance. We added a few washers to set the motor back 1/8" on the bracket and voila! Now the bathroom fan noise is gone! Others may have newer Broans that take the U shaped bracket which would be an easier install.

The bracket almost didnt reach the distance from center to center of the housing bolts, I had to open the bends from 90 degrees to 75 degrees to give it more reach distance, the height lost about a 1/4" of an inch but it still fitted pretty good, I copied some important info from a reviewer named Eric Chung, here it is:

Chances are the vent''s wiring is copper. However, this product''s wiring is aluminum. DO NOT simply solder or connect aluminum to copper. They have different heating temperatures and if your fan is in a bathroom, moisture will corrode the wiring.

I''m not an electrician fyi. But after some research, you need to buy copper to aluminum connections. There''s only a couple proprietary brands that are reliable but a quick search will show you the purple connection cones that work. (Thanks for the info Eric).
Oh, and one more thing, I had to reverse the engine rotation, it''s easy, remove the nuts and bolts holding the shaft''s bearings in position and reverse it once it has been removed, your fan should be spinning clockwise looking at it from behind the motor. I hope this one lasts 30+ years like the last one.

After 2 months, the fan still works just fine. Better than the original. People here are saying its loud. I think that''s just the acoustics of your vents. I tested it by simply plugging the fan into a wall outlet. Very silent. So it''s not the fan itself that is creating the noise. Unless it malfunctions of course

First off the price is rediculously high. Bathroom exhaust fans seem to all be grossly over priced now.
Detail - trying to replace worn out motors in 25 year old fans. New assemblies require sheetrock, duct and wiring mod''s with attic access to work so not an option plus they are grossly over priced. This motor assy looked viable so I paid the price for this unit. Shaft at last is same diameter but is an inch too long, the blower is too narrow. Cut the shaft down and reground a keying flat on it and installed the old bracket and blower. It works after a major effort.
I used to be able to buy entire exhaust fan assemblies for $25 and just steal the Fan and blower out of them. All the new stuff is designed to require major work to install and they are not even compatible with each other.

This motor replaced one that was over 20 years old. It was quite easy to replace. Turn the power off, clean the interior of the housing so you can find the two metal screws holding the motor assembly in place, Remove old fan, install new fan and screws. Don’t forget to plug new fan into receptacle. You can find just the motor alone for around $28 all over Amazon. The problem that I found, was the fan blades were very dry and brittle and about to crack so I decided to buy the whole unit that included a new mounting bracket a new blade and mounting bracket. If you buy just the motor, you will have to use your old fan blade and mounting bracket.
